What is the moose hunting test?
In Scandinavia, owners can take their hunting dogs on a special test for moose hunting.
Various Nordic hunting dogs such as moosehounds, Finnish Spitz and bear dogs are allowed to take part in this test. Each dog has about 4 hours to track down a moose. A judge then evaluates various criteria and awards points accordingly.
Examples of characteristics that are evaluated: search work, the dog's skill, barking style (how the dog barks), cooperation with the human and obedience, how the dog pursues the moose.
There are also penalty points, for example if the dog runs after the moose while barking, gets distracted or gives up the test early. Here, a husky does not need such a test because we do not use it as a hunting dog. But in the far north there are still people who depend on their hunting dogs.
