Dividal Norway
Husky tour Dividal Norway
After we have packed our sledges and harnessed the dogs, we are off. Today's stage is not so demanding and we can first get used to the sledges and the dog team.
Snow and a lot of wind
Unfortunately the weather is not very good. It is around -10°C cold, but it is snowing lightly and the sky is overcast. Because the weather forecast does not say that the weather will improve, we drive across Lake Altevatn and spend the night in a tepee, or - as the Sami say here - a lavvu. This is a very comfortable tent that is heated with a stove and is not only very cozy, but also gives an insight into the traditional Sami home.
We make quick progress
The following day the weather improves somewhat in places and the sun even comes out now and then. Then we continue through forests and frozen swamps to the Gaskas hut, which is also comfortably furnished.
It's going to be sporty
The fifth day takes us first over Lake Vuoma and then back up to a pass that is almost 1000 meters above sea level. The landscape becomes wider again, the mountains more rounded and the view can sweep eastwards over white landscapes. Before we head into the upper part of the Dividal valley, there is a small Sami village on the right. In summer, the young calves are marked here with the family symbol. Now the widely scattered huts lie alone on a small plateau.
Down and wait for the storm
Now it's quite a steep descent back into the valley and we have to brake a lot on the sledge. Then we reach the first birch trees in the valley. We head south through this loose birch forest to Lake Altevatn. Because the weather is getting worse again and a storm is forecast, we spend the night in the Lavvu again, where we were on the first day. During the night it storms quite heavily and there is also fresh snow. Luckily, the weather calms down again the next morning and we have enough time to drive back to our starting point, the husky farm. Now the temperature has risen so much that it is even raining.
Farewell
Despite very poor visibility at times, lots of snow and wind, we all reached our destination without any major incidents. Unfortunately, due to the weather, we had to shorten the tour a bit, but now we are happy that everything went well. As it happens, we now have to say goodbye to our dogs and also to our guide and the nice helpers.
