Preparing for the tour

Preparing for the husky tour

On the first day we receive all the important instructions and information that are important for our upcoming tour. Especially in the mountains and in bad weather, you need to know what to do in an emergency situation, for example.

We will be travelling with 6 teams (including a guide) in total. Each team has 6 or 7 dogs on its sled. It is not always easy to keep such a large team of dogs under control.

After the briefing, we are assigned our dog teams and we have to remember the names of the dogs and the position in which they are harnessed to the sled. Each team has a lead dog who listens well to the commands.

Of course, we also have to master the most important commands for the dogs (go, stop, right, left).

Greenlanders instead of huskies
The dogs here on the husky farm are not huskies, but Greenlanders. These sled dogs are stronger and also larger than the huskies. These dogs are also very nice to people and most of them are just as cuddly and like to be cuddled as we know from huskies. But some don't like their fellow dogs at all and you have to be very careful that there are no fights between the dogs.

After a training ride, we are ready for the next day, when our tour starts in the morning.
