The first day
The first day
After a short drive to the husky farm in Rauhala, we are first equipped with warm clothes. This is important because the climate here is different to ours. I later appreciate warm shoes, fur hats, two pairs of gloves and a well-insulated jacket and trousers.
Then we get to know our four-legged friends. Most of them are cuddly or playful and greet us warmly.
Then we drive by sleigh into the wilderness, where we will stay with our dogs for 5 days. The dogs are housed in a large kennel. Each dog has a small hut with straw inside where they can retreat. The cold doesn't bother the dogs, they are used to surviving in snow and icy temperatures.
Our accommodation consists of a small village in the middle of the forest. We sleep in one house, we eat in another and then of course there is the toilet house and a nice sauna.
After dinner, we retreat to our sleeping cabin, which is heated by a wood stove, and look forward to the next morning. The food is prepared for us by our friendly companion. And it always tastes really good.
