Fjäll-Tour
We spend the next 3 days in the fells. The area here is mostly treeless, but still interesting. You can see the mountains in the background again and again. First we drive northwest, close to the Norwegian border. On the Norwegian side lies the Junkerdal National Park. Then we head north and reach the beautifully situated Pieskehaure STF hut. From here we can enjoy the wonderful view of the Sulitjelma peak with the glacier in front of it. It is rare that you can see the mountain peaks, usually hidden by fog, as beautifully as today.
The next day we drive along the southern border of the Padjelante National Park to Vaimok. Then we go into an exciting side valley and reach the 1000-meter lakes. Again we spend the night in a well-heated hut.
The next day we take the Nordkalottenweg to Tarredalen, near the southern end of the Sarek National Park. Terredalen is part of the Pärlälven primeval forest nature reserve. At the end of the valley lies Kvikkjokk, one of the oldest places in Lapland.
During these three days we cover about 45 km (28 miles) per day. Thanks to the good weather and snow conditions, we make good progress. If the weather changes and there is a snowstorm, we might have to spend the night in a tent. But luckily we are spared this and we reach our destinations without any problems.
